The Fourth Saturday in Lent: Scandal

The gospel produces the exact opposite of what people want and expect, but it is that very fact that persuades them to accept it in the end. The apostles won their case, not simply with a sign, but by something that appeared to go against all the known signs. The cross seems to be a cause of offense, but far from simply offending, it attracts and calls believers to itself.

St John Chrysostom (Constantinople/344-407)

Every day during Lent, a brief thought, meditation, prayer, or picture will be posted here. You’re invited to use this as a jumping off point for your own spiritual practices during this season of preparation for Easter. If you would like to share a response, please comment below!
